Happy new year everyone!!!

My first countdown to the new year in Shanghai just happened, coupled with FIREWORKS and all JUST A FEW BLOCKS AWAY from home, and is extremely visible from the balcony of my apartment.

And by fireworks I am not talking about the teenie weenie sparkles that we could illegally play at backyards in Hong Kong. It’s real fireworks which everyone would be wooing over at the Victoria Harbour.

I wonder why that happened, out of the blue, on the quiet street probably just 5 minutes walk away from my apartment. But who cares… it was pretty fun to watch, live fireworks, with flesh eyes.

But that’s beside the point.

My new year’s eve was spent rather quietly if we didn’t account for the fireworks, which was not supposed to be “part of the evening” anyway. There’s really no such thing as “early release” here on Mars, but the traffic after work was probably 10 times worse than on a normal day, with everyone rushing and fighting for taxis to get to where their parties would be. I met up with my bro and some of his colleagues for dinner and…. that was it really. I thought I would want to stay away from the crowd, because the annoyance of bad traffic was just beyond imagination.

Not bad. I guess I’d finally past the stage of feeling the necessity to”be with the crowd” on special “celebration” days. And the fireworks came as a reward, of course.

And oh we’re finally getting a day off tomorrow. Good job Mars!
